| The aims and objectives of a programme currently under development for formation of the National Electronic Library (NEL) of Azerbaijan, a multi-functional system called up for becoming a core in formation of the national electronic information resources and for ensuring preservation of them, have been presented in this article. Azerbaijan Scientific-Research Network, integrating more than 1,500 computers for accessing electronic resources and created by AZRENA (Azerbaijan Branch of Transeuropean Association of Research and Academic Networks) on the basis of the Institute of Information Technology and with aid of NATO, is considered to be a premise for cardinal improvement of information servicing of the customers in the Azerbaijan Republic. The concept and essence of the NEL Creation Program is the integration of separate projects implemented in the field of Information and Telecommunications Technology into a single whole. The functions of the NEL, main directions in formation of its electronic resources and directions in improvement the information servicing of the customers, the issues of international standards, formats and application of the latest linguistic means have been the subjects considered in this article. | |
