| The Republic of Azerbaijan—a post-Soviet nation with an emerging resource-based economy—has been thriving, gaining its competitiveness in the global market despite all the challenges it has faced since achieving independence in 1991. The country’s rich hydrocarbon resources are a mixed blessing. On the one hand, they have brought additional revenues and economic growth; but on the other hand, they have placed the country at risk of so-called resource dependence. However, Azerbaijan is in the process of addressing and overcoming these challenges by diversifying its economy for the long term through its ICT sector. | |
